About Kelsan Technologies Corp.

AC Traction Locomotive A new generation of Locomotive powered by alternate current (AC) rather than direct current
Applicator A mechanical delivery system that applies Solid Stick lubricants, Friction Modifiers and Friction Enhancers to surfaces in a controlled manner.
Brake Shoe The curved piece of metal or composite material that is pressed against the tread of a wheel to slow a vehicle.
Centre Plate The point where the body of a rail vehicle is attached to the Wheelset, and which requires ongoing lubrication.
Commuter Cars Passenger cars pulled by Locomotives.
Corrugations Indentations in the Rail Head caused by Slip Stick.
Freight Cars Rail cars used for hauling freight and pulled by Locomotives.
Freight Rail Transportation of freight by rail
Friction The resistance to relative motion between two surfaces in contact
Friction Enhancer A material that increases Friction in a controlled manner
Friction Modifier A material that increases or decreases Friction between two surfaces so as to attain a specific Friction level.
Kelsan HPF A solid stick Kelsan friction modifier with a high positive co-efficient of Friction, which controls Friction at a specific level.
Kelsan LCF A Kelsan lubricant with a low co-efficient of Friction, which reduces Friction. Available in solid stick or liquid form.
KELTRACK® A liquid Kelsan friction modifier with a high positive co-efficient of Friction, which controls Friction at a specific level.
Locomotive Self propelled vehicle that runs on rails, and is used to pull Freight Cars and Commuter Cars.
NRC National Research Council of Canada
OEM Original Equipment Manufacturer.
Rail Gauge Face The side of the rail, upon which the Wheel Flange contacts.
Rail Head The top surface of the rail track, upon which the rail wheel rolls on.
Slip Stick As the wheel on the inner rail turns at a slightly different speed that the wheel on the outer rail on a curve or bend in the rail track, the wheel rubs against the rail and produces a high pitched squealing noise.
Solid Stick A dry solid Kelsan product that is placed into an Applicator which presses the dry stick against a moving surface and deposits a Friction modifying film on the surface.
Transit Cars Rail cars that are used to carry passengers, which may be self powered or pulled by Locomotives.
Transit Rail Transportation of passengers by rail.
Kelsan VHPF A Friction Enhancer with a very high positive co-efficient of Friction, which increases adhesion.
Wheel Flange The protruding edge of a Rail Wheel that prevents the rail vehicle from leaving the rail track.
Wheelflats Flat sections on a wheel caused by a wheel being forced to stop rotating when the rail vehicle is in motion.
Wheelset The steel structure under a rail vehicle, which houses the wheel and axle.
