KELTRACK®
is a water based liquid friction modifier
applied through a variety of different
application systems. When applied,
KELTRACK® rapidly leaves a dry
Thin Film on the Top of Rail. The
Thin Film is transferred from the
Top of Rail to the wheel tread of
any rail vehicle as they roll over
the KELTRACK® treated rail. This
provides friction control between
the wheel/rail interface.
The material is similar in appearance
and some characteristics to a water
based latex paint. When applied to
the top of the rail through Protector
top of rail bars, the liquid material
is picked up by the train wheels,
and carried down into the curve. The
water component dries rapidly, forming
a thin dry film.
The
frictional characteristics of a KELTRACK®
film provide:
- Controlled intermediate coefficient
of friction on the top of the rail.
This in turn provides a reduction
of lateral forces in the curve (typically
around 50%), which will provide extended
rail and track structure life. Other
benefits include reduced fuel consumption,
green house gas emissions and potential
for derailments.
- Positive friction characteristics
that control freight wheel squeal.
Kelsan® AutoPilot™ is a
top of rail friction control system
that typically installs onboard a
freight car. This friction control
system is designed to spray Kelsan®
KELTRACK® on the top of rail throughout
your entire rail system. KELTRACK®
optimizes the coefficient of friction
on the wheel/rail interface and provides
numerous benefits including fuel savings,
increased rail life, increased track
component life, reduced lateral forces,
and reduced risk of derailments. Kelsan®
AutoPilot™ is designed to be
quick and easy to install and maintain.
