Stick Gauge Face Lubricant

LCF
sticks are solid stick flange lubricants
applied directly to the wheel flange.
They are comprised of solid lubricant
in a polymer matrix. The sticks are
applied to a proportion of the wheels
(typically from 7 to 33%) using reliable
steel applicators and brackets. The
solid lubricant transfers to the wheel
flange, and the polymer is "burnt"
off by the high temperatures at the
flange / rail interface. A thin dry
solid lubricant film on the flange
provides a low coefficient of friction.
The film transfers to the side of
the rail, and from there to the other
wheel flanges. In this manner all
the wheels as well as the side of
the rail show reduced wear rates.
The polymer characteristics are selected
to ensure no migration from the flange
to the top of the rail. The sticks
are non-flammable and dry. They are
provided in variety of sizes, and
typically in the form of interlocking
sticks to ensure minimal wastage and
ease of refilling.
